Our work is delivered through young people and is collaboration between local communities, partners and volunteers form a wide range of backgrounds, nationalities and life stages. We operate in partnership with communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and governments in Borneo, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Tanzania. Since our foundation as a charity in 1984, Raleigh alumni have become a global community of more than 40,000 people committed to building a sustainable future. We are implementing our new Country Strategy 2017-2020 with thematic focus on access to safe water and sanitation, effective natural resource management, building community resilience and youth leadership culture.

We are looking for volunteers to join our Autumn 2018 volunteering programmes:

On our both programmes you will be working side by side with local communities and international volunteers in various villages of Gorkha or Makwanpur districts for 10 – 12 weeks.

Please note: These roles are voluntary and are unpaid – but you are provided with accommodation, transport, food and medical cover.

Our Programmes:

International Citizen Service (ICS):

International Citizen Service is a UK government funded volunteer programme aimed at providing Nepali and UK young people the with opportunity to work together in the development sector to have an impact and become active global citizens. The programme is split into 2 parts, a 10-week placement and then a personal commitment to follow up your learning with writing a report. You will receive a certificate of completion from the UK government once your report has been accepted. There are also other further opportunities to engage with UK government Department for International Development (DFID) youth programmes after completion of the programme.

Expedition Program:

Raleigh Expedition is a unique opportunity that combines trekking, camping and working in a remote community building WASH infrastructure and delivering awareness raising. You will be teamed up with 12 – 14 young people from across the globe and over the 10-week period you will change locations and teams.

Expedition is an opportunity to challenge yourself both physically and mentally. On the trek you will be expected to carry all your own equipment, cook food for you and your team and camp out in tents. You will be given the opportunity to lead the group, navigate and spend time in local communities, whilst under the supervision of 3 volunteer managers and a local guide.

During the time spent in the communities you will be participating in WASH infrastructure, such as repairing water pipe systems, building new water tanks, providing handwashing stations and laying pipes. You will also be delivering WASH awareness raising sessions to local communities. You’ll live with local families.

• Ending date: 1st week of December 2018

10 weeks for Volunteers

• Starting date: 2nd week of October 2018

• Ending date: 1st week of December 2018


• For being a Team leader/Volunteer Manager, your age should be between 23-30. For being a volunteer, your age should be between 18-24
• Both Team Leader/Volunteer Manager and Volunteers are Volunteer Positions
